100% Chemical free for 50% off

I know that it’s just that time in my life, but it seems like everyone around me is pregnant. So with all the showers and celebrations that come with having lots of friends with babies, I love when I find great baby gifts (which is actually pretty easy because everything is so cute).

Today while shopping at Era, down on Princess street, I came across some baby care products, that are not only made in Canada, but claim to be 100% chemical free and made with organic ingredients. The brand is Druide, and I chose the baby shampoo protecting balm.

What’s more, is I got it all for 1/2 price! Era’s got a pretty big sale going on these days, and you get 50% off all the new lines in the store (and by new, they just mean non-vintage), including Kate Quinn Organics, super cute baby clothes Em posted about a little while back. They don’t just carry baby clothes, so if it’s not all you shop for these days, that’s ok!

Fun Thing to do in Kingston

Here’s a new one for the list – the Wolf Island Corn Maze! I hadn’t heard of this before, but some members of the Herch Social Club are organizing a trek out there on Sunday and it sounds very cute. The maze actually runs from July till late October, but it seems like a “fall” thing to do, non? If you want to spook it up, you can try a nighttime trip with flashlights (and zombies??!)

Another Book Sale

Yep, definitely a theme right now.  Ah, well… I can’t resist this one! The Queen’s Campus Bookstore’s Hurt Penguins sale is happening this Tues (Oct 9th). This is where you can find slightly damaged copies of all sorts of Penguin titles for $3 each.

Warning: the sale can be hit and miss. Last year, the selection wasn’t great, but you never know what you will dig out!

Fun event Saturday

Eeek! I tried to post about this yesterday, but it didn’t publish for some reason.

Today (September 29th) from 12pm till 4pm a “Really Really Free Market” will be taking place at McBurney Park in Kingston. This event, hosted by Kingston Crimethink, is sort of like a big market where goods and services are exchanged…. for free! Books, music, food, and much more. Sounds very cool.

Write Like Jane

I seem to be on a bit of a book theme right now… I think I get into the zone once a month around the Herch Book Club meeting (usually because I am scrambling to finish the book!)

Anyhoo, here’s a site where you can download a font someone has created using Jane Austen’s handwriting. Maybe you need to write a dazzling love letter and having Jane on your side will get the juices flowing??

Used Book Sale in Kingston

I’m a little slow on the uptake on this one (it’s already half over!) but the Kingston Symphony is having their annual Used Book Sale this weekend. It’s happening at the J.K. Tett Centre, 370 King Street West. Admission is free and it runs today from 10-5 & tomorrow from 10-4. Oh, and all books are half price tomorrow!

Colouring Pages from Photos

Here’s a fun tool I stumbled across – use Photoshop to make a colouring page from a photo in three easy steps!

http://fototiller.com/blog/2006/06/26/coloring-pages-from-your-photos-3-easy-photoshop-steps/

Sure, you can have a little childhood throwback and make your own colouring book, but how about making some cheap yet chic wall art from a photo you’ve taken? Ooohhh, very mod!

Simply Vera at Kohls

Need a good reason to take the hour long trip across the border and into Watertown, NY? Here’s one:

simply vera by vera wang

On September 9th, Kohl’s (US only) launched the Simply Vera by Vera Wang line in its stores, and as far as I can tell from their online catalogue (which you can access by visiting www.kohls.com) – not only does this line seem relatively affordable, but it looks super cute too. I’m thinking that it’s Kohl’s response to Isaac Mizrahi’s line at Target, which makes it time for me to take a small town American shopping trip!

Very Nice – Vero Moda

There’s no better way to forget the fact that it’s getting colder outside and that the leaves are changing colours…than to go shopping! One of our favorite sports, Blueprint (246 Princess Street) has got tons of new stuff on the shelves and it’s definitely worth a look. As usual, they carry a huge selection of one of my favorite brands:
Vero Moda
Vero Moda – which I think is totally affordable, fashionable and unique.

Happy Shopping!

Sugar rush

I’m always looking for different ways to save money; recently we cut our cable (it has been three months and to be honest, I haven’t really missed it, except for the odd re-run of Sarah’s House) and now I’m trying to cut back on the number of magazines I buy each month. The first ones to go: Celebrity Rags…we all love them – but I find that there’s so much juicy star gossip online these days that I can’t really justify picking one up every time I hit the drug store. My new one-stop-spot is the collection of “sugar” blogs that talk Celebrity, fashion, beauty, home, music, entertainment and more. My personal favorite is the Celebrity blog popsugar.com, and you can get to all the others once you get there.

Have fun, and feel a little less guilty
