Monday Diversion
Have you always wanted to see your name in lights? How about engraved on an Academy Award? Well, if you think your chances of seeing the real deal are slim, you can create a 2-d version for your viewing pleasure. Check out RedKid’s sign generator tool (http://www.redkid.net/generator/sign.php) for hours (well, minutes) of mindless entertainment. You can slap your name on a London Underground sign or write a love note in a bowl of alphabet soup. Yummy!

Cook yummy foods – fast

I love to cook, however, I don’t love deciding what to cook every night, and I don’t want to be in the kitchen for hours. So I signed up for Wish magazine’s 20 minute Supper Club. What is it? Well, every week, they send you an email with 4 new recipes (because no one cooks something new every night of the week, gotta get those fajitas in there). They’re simple, easy to follow, healthy and won’t take much time to prepare. Even if you only make one thing a week from the list, I’m pretty sure it will spice up your weekly routine.

PS on the shoes
Here are the sassy shoes I picked up at Catwalk:

I’m certain they will absolutely murder my feet at the wedding I plan on wearing them to but I don’t care. They look THAT hot.

Shoes: We Like…
Catwalk. Just across the street from Market Square (320 King Street, E) – a fabulous women’s accessories, shoes and handbags store is having a summer sale. I just bought a great pair of gold, flat, Charles David shoes – 50% off. Em was the one who told me about it, and when I saw her hot new heels and I just had to go.
Be sure to head down to Catwalk on your next trip downtown and check it out for yourself. Most of their summer stuff is marked down by 50%, and they will definitely have the necklace and bag to go with them.
Happy Shopping!

Learn Something New
I know Meg mentioned Wellington Beach/Picton recently, but I was there on Saturday for Dragon Boat Racing with the Herch social club (side note: extremely fun), and I passed this place:

It’s the Waring House in Picton, and in addition to a restaurant & inn, they also have a cooking school! No experience required (for those of us who can’t yet call ourselves ‘gourmet chefs’). You can join a class or arrange a private group lesson. Recent courses have included The Thai Grill and Under the Tuscan Sun. Classes run on Saturday mornings during the winter and two nights per week in the summer. And, yes, you get to eat what you make. Makes me hungry just writing about it!

We’ve just added a Fun in Kingston page to this site where we will list things to do/eat/see/try/taste in our great little city.
Have anything you think we should add? Let us know!

Baby Talk
You knew it would happen. You’d plod along for years all young and carefree with no responsibilities and then WHAM. It’s hits. People start. having. babies. Once the initial ‘we are getting kinda old’ shock wears off, you realize that appointing yourself pseudo-auntie can be pretty fun. All the cute without the responsibility!
It was with this in mind that I surfed recently for cute yet functional baby gifts online and I came across Kate Quinn Organics (http://www.katequinnorganics.com/index.html). Here’s the deal: 100% organic cotton baby clothes and bedding. Soft fabrics, rich colours and WAY more to choose from than the standard pink, blue or yellow. Kate is based in the US, but here’s the best part: strolling Princess St last week, I noticed that the line is available at Era Modern (110 Princess St). How’s that for convenient!?

Day Trip: We Like…
Wellington beach. Just an hour outside Kingston, in the heart of Ontario’s newest wine “county”, we like Wellingston Beach because it’s less crowded than Sandbanks and it’s free. The sand’s a little rocky, but manageable, and if you’re anything like me, that’s ok, because the beach is for relaxing and not much else.
How to get there: Take Beach Street off of the Loyalist Parkways (Hwy 33).
There’s lots more to do than just sitting on the beach, you can make it into a weekend and stay at a local B&B or make your rounds at some of the local wineries. Word of warning: many of the hotels, motels and B&B’s ask that you stay for two nights during the summer, so stay longer…or just wait until September!
Check out what Wellington, and the rest of Prince Edward County has to offer here: http://www.pec.on.ca/wellington/index.html

Weekend Pick: We like…
… Brunch on the Pan Chancho patio. No, it’s not a formally organized event, per se. It’s just one of those great summer spots that you should definitely try if you:
(a) like brunch
(b) like patios
You will find that (a) is delicious and (b) is adorable. Adds up to a great hangover cure by my calculations!
